The North Carolina Symphony will perform its 19th annual outdoor concert on the Village Green in Southern Village, Chapel Hill on Tuesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m.
The free concert, sponsored by UNC Health Care, is open to the public. Blankets, low chairs and coolers (no glass) are allowed. Free parking is available throughout Southern Village. In the evening parking is available behind the Market Street buildings and in the Southern Village Park and Ride lot. The first state supported symphony in the country, NCS performs 175 concerts and events annually for the adults and schoolchildren in more than 90 North Carolina counties. The Symphony’s 66 full-time professional musicians perform under the artistic leadership of Music Director Grant Llewellyn. Says Meredith Laing, Director of Communications at NCS, “This program is a real crowd pleaser, with some of the most fun and recognizable moments in classical music. The audience is sure to be humming along to familiar tunes from ballet and opera, like like Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lane and Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours, and tapping their toes with the racing rhythms of Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo, a Dvorak Slavonic Dance, and Leroy Anderson’s extravaganza for strings, Fiddle Faddle.” The free community concert is sponsored by UNC Health Care. Says Tom Maltais of UNC Health Care, “It should be a wonderful event with beautiful music for people to enjoy. UNC Health Care is proud to be a part of it and to support our local community.” Southern Village is located on Highway 15-501 South in Chapel Hill. For directions www.southernvillage.com.
