Steve Earle and the Dukes, Rising Appalachia, Donna the Buffalo and more than 50 other performers will share four stages over four days in rural Chatham County. Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival is known for bringing some of the best world music to North Carolina. An artist to watch in 2018 is Merge Records’ Ibibio Sound Machine, headlining the Meadow Stage Saturday, May 5. The band is fronted by London-born Nigerian singer Eno Williams who will bring her strong vocals, and the band’s electronic afro-funk, stateside for a rare visit. Other notables include, hailing from Uganda, Kinobe and Dance of Hope, Chicano Batman from Austin, TX, and The Mastersons touring behind their new Red House Records release Transient Lullaby. Dozens of local acts will be performing as well, including: Driftwood, Arson Daily, and the Cane Creek Cloggers. The festival offers a mind-boggling selection of programs and workshops in the fields of sustainability, music and dance, and healing arts. Attendees of all ages will enjoy marching in the Paperhand Puppet Intervention Parade on Saturday and learning new skills like beekeeping, making vinegar, and food preservation. The Outpost is an area programmed specifically with 13 - 18 year olds in mind and offers over 20 fun and educational activities. The Kids Area offers programming from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. each day that ranges from face painting to garden story time, and fossil digs. Tickets for a 4-Day Pass are $114 and Single Day Passes range from $22 - $37. Teenagers 13 - 15 years old are $59 and children 12 and under are free. Camping ranges from $15 - $125.
