The Ghostlight Project was inspired by the tradition of leaving a bare bulb to shine on in a darkened theatre, offering visibility and safety to all who might enter.
PlayMakers will join theatres across the country in a nationwide collective action on the eve of the Inauguration to commit to being a “light” for the challenging times ahead. We encourage both the marginalized and their allies to join us in renewing our pledge to be a “brave space” as we stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation and compassion for everyone, while encouraging diverse opinions, active listening and the courageous exchange of ideas in a theatrical context.
Please arrive before 5:30p.m. with your lights off. A member of our company will say a few words and we’ll all light our lights together. The official events will conclude with some selected readings from company members, but our building will remain open and all are welcome to stay and share what may be on their own hearts. So bring your flashlights, lanterns, head lamps, and cell phones and help us to be a light to the community around us. Shine brightly and we’ll see you on the 19th!
