Please join the Tri-County Women in Business Group (Tri-County WIB) for the June Luncheon hosted by the Durham Chamber of Commerce, 12-1 p.m., Tuesday, June 20 at 21c Hotel, 111 Corcoran Street in Durham NC.
This month's speaker is Leslie Lillard Walden, Vice-President Public Affairs for Fidelity Investments.
She is responsible for Fidelity’s government relations, community investing and civic efforts, for North Carolina and Florida. She assumed this work in June 2006, as the company announced expansion plans in the Research Triangle. Ms. Walden established Fidelity’s community relations function in North Carolina and serves on the regional leadership team that has supported the company’s efforts to more than triple its headcount in the region.
Ms. Walden joined Fidelity in 1998 in the firm’s Corporate Affairs department in Boston, where she managed marketing communications launches for new products and services, including Fidelity’s retirement income planning program for Baby Boomers nearing retirement.
Previously, Ms. Walden served as communications director for N.C. Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety Richard H. Moore in Governor James B. Hunt’s administration and was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as public affairs special assistant to U.S. Transportation Secretary Federico Peña. She is also a former press secretary to U.S. Rep. John W. Olver (D-MA) and U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry (D-MA).
Ms. Walden serves Fidelity as a founding member of the Women’s Networking Group as well as regional executive for the Aspire Resource Group for African American and Latino employees. In the community, Ms. Walden is a Goodmon Fellow with Leadership Triangle and a graduate of Leadership North Carolina Class 17. She is a past chair of the board of directors for the NC Center for Public Policy Research and is on the boards of the NC Center for Economic Education and the NC Chamber. Ms. Walden is a 2016 winner of the Triangle Business JournalWomen in Business Award.
Ms. Walden is an honors graduate and holds a B.A. in Political Science and Media Studies from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and is a master’s degree candidate at Suffolk University, also in Boston. She graduated from Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, N.C where she was a radio announcer at WIOZ-FM and WDLV-AM. She volunteers with Triangle Radio Reading Service for the blind and print impaired and dances with the Apple Chill Cloggers of Chapel Hill.
She lives with her husband, realtor Jay Walden, and two children in Chatham County, N.C.
